Successes with OCD

Successes with OCD

Summary

Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is best treated using the gold standard ‘Exposure & Response Prevention’ (ERP) … a type of CBT. Watch and listen to several therapists who use ERP, not just for patients but for themselves too!

The selected interviews below – all conducted by Stuart Ralph, the creator of The OCD Stories – shine a light on how CBT and related therapies teach those with OCD how to live well with uncertainty, anxiety spikes and other moods associated with OCD.

About

People with OCD – providing and receiving treatment

Stuart Ralph is a counsellor and psychotherapist for children and young people in the UK. He is co-founder of The Integrative Centre for OCD Therapy. He founded The OCD Stories podcast, a weekly podcast where he interviews some of the best minds in OCD recovery. In 2018 he was given the hero award by the International OCD Foundation. Stuart himself has OCD and understands the struggle.

Here is a Live podcast from the IOCDF conference in 2024. I like it because (1) Stuart is talking with another therapist who also has first hand experience with OCD and various treatments around it, and (2) they cover aspects of R-OCD, which is not often discussed but very prevalent.

All 446 Podcasts by Stuart (through August, 2024) are here.  If you look at this notes per podcast, you can pick and choose certain topics that interest you.

Shala Nicely

Shala Nicely is another therapist with OCD – here are her podcasts .  She also hosts a blog (Beyond the Doubt) with a colleague, using their own experiences to tell stories.

Jon Hershfield on Mindfulness, ERP, Acceptance

Stuart Ralph has interviewed  Jon Hershfield (another therapist with OCD) on The OCD Stories. Jon typically integrates Mindfulness Meditation with ERP.

The community – IOCD

I attended the 2018 annual conference of the International OCD Foundation and was very impressed with the depth and breadth of their involvement.  If you think you have OCD, you owe it to yourself to check out my blog on the 2018 IOCD conference – which includes a long list of the tweets that came from it.
